She was our rock, good deed doer, tradition keeper and moral compass. Whether driving a friend to an appointment, making daily trips to care for her mother at Brandon Woods nursing home or making her legend dessert trays and fruit salads for family functions, she was always the “go to” person. She also found great pleasure in simplicity, watching birds on her feeder, “talking” with her devoted cat Gina and doing the daily crossword. She even loved to iron, much to the amusement of her family. She savored good food, a turn on the dance floor made her sparkle and she maintained her volumes of cherished photos with a vengeance.
Most of her life she worked as a diet aide at Saint Lukes Hospital, and in later years served Meals-On-Wheels. Both jobs were perfectly tailored to the people person she was and she relished both of them.
Frances was the beloved daughter of Laura Openshaw and the late George Openshaw. She is survived by her children Louise (Laprade) and husband Don, Michael and companion Flo Dubois, James and wife Karen, and Thomas and wife Mary. Memere also leaves her grandchildren, Danielle, Michelle, Jaime, Zachary, Stephanie, Chancery, Katie, Laura, Vivian, and great-grandchildren Rahzel, Winthrop, Abigail, and Lily and by her sister Rita Titus
Her heart overflowed with love and wonderful memories of times spent with her sisters-in-law Lolita and Clarice. As loving wife Frances was the eternal keeper of the flame of love that burned for her late husband Louis W. Surprenant.
Never to be forgotten we will use her life as a lens to assess our own.
