

Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Herbert and Cecelia (Guzik) Bowden.
He was a graduate of New Bedford High School and furthered his education by receiving an associate’s degree from Fisher College. Mr. Bowden proudly served in the United States Army.
Mr. Bowden had worked as a supervisor of meter readers for Commonwealth Electric for many years until his retirement.
Gerald served as a third-degree Master Mason with Quittacus Lodge in New Bedford for 47 years. He enjoyed bowling, yard work, gardening, traveling, and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was an avid sports fan, especially New England sports teams. He and Ruth wintered in Florida and often walked the beach collecting shells and shark teeth. Gerald was very proud to have raised three children on his own as a single father.
Gerald’s family would like to thank Alden Court and especially The Oaks for their care and compassion.
Surviving in addition to his wife Ruth are his children, Shari Dant, Todd Bowden and his wife Karen and Stephanie Bowden; his step-children, Kevin Swindon and his wife Jennifer and Kendra Cadieux; a brother, John Bowden and his wife Jacqueline; ten grandchildren, Chelsea, Kit, Chris, James, Madison, Reagan, Kara, Meghan, Teddy and Matthew; two great-grandchildren, Liliana and Mateo and one on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 9:00-11:00 am with a Funeral Service at 11:00 am in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven followed by burial in Riverside Cemetery.
