Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Frank and Agnes (Souza) Sylvia she grew up there before settling in Fairhaven over sixty years ago.
Helana worked at Rodney Metals for 10 years then Acushnet Rubber for 29 years. She retired to be the full time caregiver for her parents. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards, traveling and spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her uncle, Paul Souza and his wife Dot; her “like sister” Susan Cabral; her sisters-in-law, Kathleen Tanguay, Elaine Brienzo and Diane Paradis; her pets that she loved liked children, a dog, Gracie and a cat, Samantha; many cousins; and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 11 a.m. in Waring-Sullivan Home at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Main St., Fairhaven. Visitation will be Monday 5-8 p.m. For online tribute/directions: www.waring-sullivan.com.
