Imelda E. “Millie” Sylvia, 81, passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2018 in Venice, Florida following a short illness. She was the wife of the late Donald C. Sylvia and was born in Amesbury, daughter of the late Elphege Viel and Yvonne (Babineau) Viel, she had lived in Fairhaven for over 40 years and recently resided in Port Charlotte FL. Millie and Donald had celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2005
Millie was a graduate of Amesbury MA high school class of 1955 and played the saxophone in the band. Mrs. Sylvia previously worked at Atlas Tack Corporation, Mattapoisett town hall as a clerk, Silverstein’s clothing store and monitored the census for the Town of Fairhaven for many years.
Millie was also a foster mother for over 16 years and her positive outlook on life, caring personality, and compassion towards everyone has touched the lives of many families over the years. She was a member of the Ladies Assoc. of Sacred Hearts and also enjoyed Bingo, bowling and playing cards.
Her family includes two sons, Steven M. Sylvia and his wife Christine of Carver and Scott E. Sylvia of Dartmouth and his companion Candice Janelle; her two sisters, Yvette Descoteaux with companion Brian of FL and Loretta King with her husband Wayne of Amesbury and FL;
Three grandchildren, Cameron, Aaron and Mikala; one great-grandson,Jadyn; and her brother-in-law, Ken Sylvia and his wife Jeanne. Millie also had many wonderful nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Mark A. Sylvia and her brothers, Jerry and Robert Viel.
Visitation will be held on June 9th from 8:00 to 9:30 in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME AT FAIRLAWN, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am in St. Joseph’s Church, 74 Spring St.,Fairhaven.
