

The daughter of the late Wallace and Freda (Eglar) Cummings she was born in Middletown, CT where she was a graduate of Middletown High School and after marriage moved to the Acushnet area over 50 years ago. A Homemaker, Mrs. Sousa spent most of her early years raising her children and later worked for New England Comptometer in New Bedford and later Gifford’s Market in Padanaram. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Fairhaven, enjoyed dancing and playing cards, but most all enjoyed the time being surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by her two children Lynn M. Hopkins and her husband Eldon and John Phillip Sousa and his wife Dianne all of Acushnet; two sisters Ella Stearns and Vernita Yerdon both of Westfield, MA; six grandchildren Christopher, Kevin, Jonathan, Tiffany, Rebecca and Christina; three great granddaughters Hanna, Ava and Jocelyn and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sousa, the youngest of seven children, was also the sister of the late Edgar, Ernest, and Charles Cummings and Laura Santostefano and great grandmother of the late Trevor.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 9am from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT FAIRLAWN 180 Washington St., Fairhaven followed by her funeral mass at 10am in St. Mary’s Church, Main St., Fairhaven. Visiting hours Monday from 4-7pm. Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to her favorite charities World Wildlife Federation 1250 Twenty-Fourth Street, N.W. P.O.
