

Born in Providence, RI, a son of the late Austin and Madeline (Prest) Cooney he was a lifelong area resident and one of ten children.
Mr. Cooney served in the United States Army. He worked as an electrician for Electric Boat. Jim also worked for the United States Post Office in Rhode Island. In his spare time, he and Alice enjoyed traveling, RVing, snowmobiling, going to the P-Pac for shows and to the casinos. He was a member of the American Legion in Providence, the Fairhaven Improvement Association, the Fairhaven Historical Society, the Whaling Museum and Save the Bay. Jim thoroughly enjoyed collecting the yearly Hess trucks collection around Christmas time.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by siblings, Austin Cooney, Donna Dube, and Elizabeth Lonergan and many nieces and nephews who meant a lot to him and his dogs, Rascal and Chace. He was the brother of the late Alberta Duffy, Rita Whalen, Marion Humecky, Joan McDermott, Joseph Cooney and John Cooney.
