

Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late John Lopes and Ermina Lima, she lived in New Bedford for many years before moving to Fairhaven.
Mrs. Cruz was employed as a textile worker at Julius Koch, as a cashier at the Star Store and as a nurse’s aide at the New Bedford Nursing Home.
She was a great dancer who enjoyed music, shopping, traveling, cooking and loved all animals. She was a very loving and compassionate woman who cherished the time spent with her loving family and many friends.
Surviving in addition to her husband is a son, Donald S. Cruz of Westport; two daughters, Laverne M. Cruz of Fairhaven and Claudia Ann Cruz of Oakland, CA; four grandchildren, Christopher Cruz of Brockton, Jamal Cruz of Wareham, Kristina Backer of London and Jessica Cruz of Fairhaven; two great-grandchildren, Jalen and Sierra Cruz of Pittsburg, PA; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. She was the sister of the late Annie Grace, Alice Sanders, Henry Lima and Joseph Lopes. Dear friend of Jean Brodnax of Weston, MA, Lolly Spencer of Fairhaven and Edith Langevin of New Bedford.
