Manny was a WW II veteran and served in the Pacific. During his years as a poultry farm owner and operator in Fairhaven, MA he met and married his beloved Terry. As his family grew, he took employment with the Atlas Tack Company also in Fairhaven. Eventually, Manny became a Corrections Officer in New Bedford, MA. Upon retiring from the Corrections Department, Manny did freelance carpentry work which he truly enjoyed. He was most proud of having redone the interior of the restaurant, Rosies, in New Bedford.
In 1981, after the family was grown, Manny and Terry moved to Florida and gladly left the winter months behind returning each summer to Massachusetts to visit family and friends. In their home community at Lake Conley Park they met and made friends with so many people and enjoyed taking part in all the activities there. As Manny just recently said, “I've had a wonderful life”.
Manny had coached Little League Baseball while his sons were active in the sport and he loved bowling, golf, puzzles (the harder the better) and of course family croquet games. He was a natural athlete and was extremely competitive. He loved to win! He enjoyed watching and critiquing the Red Sox and Patriots as well as his adopted Florida teams. He rode his bicycle and had just recently begun to ride a tricycle around Lake Conley Park at regular intervals every day. Everyone knew to look for him and Manny loved to stop and talk.
Manny is predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Terry Faria and by his son, Manuel Faria Jr.
He is survived by his sons, Mark Faria (Debbie) of New Bedford, MA, Jeff Faria (Kristy) of Stafford Springs, CT and daughter, Lynne Cormier of Brewster, MA. Also, grandchildren Craig Faria (Nicole) of New Bedford, MA, Aaron Faria (Brittany) of Dartmouth, MA, Courtney Faria of Seattle, WA, Rebecca Faria of Brighton, MA and Benjamin Faria of Franklin, TN. Manny has two great grandchildren, Weston Faria and Daxton Faria.
His Visitation will be held on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 8AM to 10AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Fairlawn, 180 Washington Street, Fairhaven followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30AM in St. Joseph’s Church, 74 Spring Street, Fairhaven, MA.
