Mariellen "Maya" Howland, 62, of Fairhaven, MA, passed away on March 1, 2019 peacefully surrounded by her family at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, MA.

Mariellen was born on December 13, 1956 in New Bedford. She was a graduate of Fairhaven High School, class of 1975 and an amazing mother to two daughters and a son. Mariellen met her husband of 27 years, Roger Shepard in 1991 and they have been together every day since. Mariellen was the kindest and most loving person there was and she was one of the strongest. Though she suffered from rheumatoid arthritis, she made sure she did everything she possibly could to take care of everyone she crossed paths with.

Mariellen is survived by her loving husband Roger Shepard, her eldest daughter Ryan Ann daCosta and her husband Eric daCosta, daughter Amanda Howland, son Brandon Howland and his wife Maria Howland, and four amazing grandchildren, Grant daCosta, Natalia Howland, Luciana Howland and Catalina Howland. She is survived by nine siblings, Gail Marinelli, Dawn Bourgeois Howland, George Howland, Ann Lopes, Gigi Howland, Kimberly Valles, Kelly Dompierre, Missy Dompierre and Bernadette Dompierre and predeceased by one brother, Jerry Howland.

Her Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 11am in St. Mary’s Church, 440 Main St., Fairhaven followed by burial in Riverside Cemetery. My heart breaks for all of the Howland siblings & extended family. I have so many wonderful memories of playing with Maya in the “neighborhood” of Pleasant, Union & Atlas streets. She was a joy & a beautiful person. Prayers & love to you all.

I have such loving memories of us . Taking walks , hanging out , raising our kids on the same block. , but most of all just sitting talking , she was the kindest person with a huge heart .. she was always there for me no matter what was going on. I will miss her so much . I will cherish every memory I have of her . She was a great friend to me ❤️

Ryan,

I didn't know your mother very well but when she would go to check on your house she would always wave or stop to talk to me when I was on my front porch. She seemed like such a nice person. She once brought me some seafood which I really enjoyed. I think Heaven will welcome her with open arms.
