Mary V. “Ginny” (Mercer) Cabral, 78 of Acushnet passed away from a sudden illness on Thursday, December 19, 2024, in her residence with her loving family at her bedside. Ginny was the wife of Joseph D. Cabral, with whom they shared 56 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Harold and Helen (Gould) Mercer, she was a lifelong Southcoast resident. Ginny was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. She was later employed as a sales manager for many years in Fairhaven for a local carpet store.
Ginny was a loving mother who enjoyed caring for her grandchildren through the years. She also loved going out for dinner with her husband, laughing and sharing a good meal with her closest friends and family. But Ginny will be remembered most for her greatest attribute which was the love she extended to anyone in need. She had an enduring quality to nurture and make people feel welcome and at home. Ginny was loved in return by many and will be missed dearly.
In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by her children, Joseph M. Cabral and his wife Brenda of Acushnet and Jennifer A. Adams and her husband Jerome of New Bedford; her brother, Robert Mercer of Fairhaven; four grandchildren; Jerome, Owen, Alyssa and Bailey; and her dear nephew and niece, Kevin and Kacey; as well as several other nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late John Mercer.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ginny’s honor may be made to: American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
