Maryann "Barbara" Cardin

Maryann Barbara (Piorkowski) Cardin, age 98, of New Bedford, died Sunday, January 28, 2018 in the Sacred Heart Home in New Bedford. Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Walter and Helen (Kula) Piorkowski, she spent her youth in New Bedford before moving to Acushnet where she lived for more than 50 years.

Mrs. Cardin was a hairdresser and operated Barbara Ann’s Beauty Shop on County Street in New Bedford for many years. Upon her retirement, she worked part-time at the Sacred Heart Home in New Bedford and Kimwell Nursing Home in Fall River.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara McDonald of New Bedford; a grandson, Christopher McDonald, and his wife, Susan, of Pawtucket, RI; two grandchildren, Matthew and Jillian McDonald of Fairhaven; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Cardin was the mother of the late Robert E. Cardin and sister of the late Joan Martel, Joan, Walter and Frank Piorkowski.

Her Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 9AM in Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 235 N. Front St., New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her honor may be made to Save the Bells c/o Suzanne Sullivan, 443 Dana Farms, Fairhaven, MA 02719. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home at FAIRLAWN, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven.

I loved her like my own grandmother. She was the cat lady n squall lady.she was my gram.miss u gram,I hope u with Gail,u out lived them all.u r always in my heart.Barbara in so sorry for Ur lose,hope all is well,I just lost my boyfriend of 5 years to cancer,love ya

Barbara I am so very sorry you know how much I thought of your Mom. I called you after receiving your message but it said you were not receiving calls. Had my husband help me this morning to get on guest book my first time. So sorry to find out I had missed her mass I know how much mass ment to her but I did say prayers for her. Fondly, Charlotte
