

Olimpio O.M. Pereira, age 94, of Fairhaven, formerly of New Bedford, passed away at home on July 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Lourdes (Pinheiro) Pereira, to whom he had been married for 62 years.
Born in Almada, Portugal, the son of the late Antero and Virginia (Morgado) Pereira, he emigrated to the United States in 1966 and settled in New Bedford before moving to Fairhaven 48 years ago.
Mr. Pereira was employed by the former Dartmouth Finishing for over 30 years until his retirement. For decades, he would officiate soccer matches in the LASA, Commercial, and Cape Cod Leagues, along with local high school matches. An avid soccer fan, Olimpio was a lifelong Benfica fan and enjoyed watching them at every opportunity. He adored his grandchildren and enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Jose Pereira and his wife Cristina of Maçao, Portugal, Edgar Pereira and his wife Stephanie of Dartmouth and Orlando Pereira and his wife Jenn of Dartmouth; five grandchildren Amanda, Sarah, Megan, Alexa and Aidan Pereira; a great grandson Daniel Pereira; a brother Antero Pereira of Almada, Portugal and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings Jose, Lidia, Graciano and Virginia Pereira.
His Visitation will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026 from 9 to 11am in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven. His Funeral Service will follow at 11am at the funeral home and burial will take place in Rural Cemetery in New Bedford.
