

Olivia L. (Lemos) Piela, age 97, formerly of Fairhaven, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Sippican Health Care Center in Marion surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Edward Piela.
Olivia was born on a dairy farm in Fairhaven, a daughter of the late Joseph and Jesuina (Costa) Lemos, and was a lifelong resident of the town and was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church.
She was the manager of Fairhaven Delken Laundry and later worked at Staffons and Roxanne’s Garden Center as a greenhouse attendant and planter, until the age of 91.
Olivia was an active member of the Mattapoisett and Fairhaven Holy Ghost Clubs. She enjoyed gardening, working in the yard and baking sweets. She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed spending time with her sisters, whom she considered her best friends.
Olivia is survived by a daughter, Linda J. Gallant and her husband Wayne D. of Fairhaven; a son, Stephen E. Piela of Saco, ME; Five grandchildren, Shawn S. Fernandes of Peoria, AZ, Stephen T. Piela of Burlington, VT, Allyson L. Piela of Sidney, Australia, Vaughan E. Piela of Saco, ME, and Ellyn C. Gallant of Fairhaven, MA; Three great-grandchildren Haidyn E.A. Fernandes, Jacob B. Sowden and Lana L. Piela. She was the sister of the late Mary Costa, Maxine Faustino, Bella Matheson, Florence Souza and Josephine Pimental.

Her Funeral will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 8:00 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Fairlawn, 180 Washington Street, Fairhaven, MA with a funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in St. Joseph’s Church, 74 Spring Street, Fairhaven followed by burial in Riverside Cemetery.
