Ray was born in New Bedford, a son of the late William J. and Hazel A. (Holmes) Dextraze, and had lived in the city for most of his life before moving to Fairhaven two years ago. He worked as a carpenter in the New Bedford area for many years, and enjoyed camping, fishing, shooting pool and playing the lottery.
He is survived by his daughter: Deborah A. Mercier of New Bedford, his son: Raymond Dextraze Jr. and his wife Kimberly of Westport, four beloved grandchildren: Nicole and Ashley Mercier and Doug and Ashley Mongeon, one great-granddaughter: Kacie Carvalho, two sisters: Rita Mello of New Bedford and Florence Cabral of Freetown, a brother: William Dextraze Jr. of New Bedford, and many nieces and nephews.
His family will receive relatives and friends during visiting hours on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 from 4 to 7 pm with a brief service at 6:30 pm in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT FAIRLAWN, 180 Washington St, Fairhaven. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Ray’s memory to the National Kidney Foundation, 85 Astor Ave #2, Norwood, MA 02062. Burial will be private.
