Richard Bordas, 73, of Fairhaven, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey. He was the husband of Lee (Cauley) Bordas with whom he shared 41 years of marriage.
Born in Vanderbilt, PA, a son of the late John and Johanna (Wisilosky) Bordas, he was a resident of Fairhaven since 1978, moved to New Bedford in 1986 and returned to Fairhaven in 2005.
Richard was a graduate of Divine Word Seminary, received his STB from St. Mary’s Seminary, received his MS in English from Loyola University in Illinois and received his MSW from Simmons School of Social Work. He was ordained a priest as a member of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD).
His life was spent in service to others. He was an English Teacher at Divine Word College in Iowa and had worked as a Social Worker for the Department of Social Services in Fall River until retiring in 2002.
Richard was a beekeeper and a choir member at St. Joseph’s Church and enjoyed travelling, reading and the symphony. He was a devoted husband, father and friend who touched the lives of many people.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Edward Bordas and his wife Nina Columbaro of Dorchester, John Bordas and his fiancée Clara Simoes of New Bedford, and Hanna Bordas and her husband Eric Vargo of Santa Monica, CA; his grandchildren, Lorenzo Bordas and Rosanna Vargo; his sisters, Joan Stanko of Scotia, NY, Marlene Riggin of Vanderbilt, PA and Vicky Basinger of Scottdale, PA; his brothers, David Bordas of Charlevoix, MI and William "Bobby" Wisilosky of Connellsville, PA; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John Bordas.
His Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 3, 2012 at 10am in St. Joseph’s Church, 74 Spring St., Fairhaven. Visiting hours will be on Thursday 4-8pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven.
