

Richard C. " Dick" Holt, 84 years old, of Fairhaven passed away on September 18, 2025 at Care One nursing facility unexpectedly after a short illness. He was the loving husband of the late Janet E. (Martel) Holt with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. Born in Acushnet, on April 4th 1941, the son of the late Sydney and Yvonne Holt (Dallaire) he was a lifetime resident of Fairhaven since 1942.
Mr. Holt graduated from Fairhaven High School in 1959 and studied Electrical Engineering at the former New Bedford Institute of Technology (now U-Mass Dartmouth). He worked for several well known manufacturing companies in the field of electronics. They included Cornell Dubilier Electronics (Supervisor of the High Reliability lab), Epec Industries (Manager Quality Control) Augat, Inc. (Marketing Manager of the Systems division), Thomas & Betts (Manager "press-fit" Technology, Amphenol/Bendix (Avionics Marketing Manager), and Computing Solutions where he retired in 2005 as the Director of Key Accounts. Dick was the creator of 5 United States Patents and two registered trademarks in the field of Electrical Interconnection Technology. He received two "best of session" awards at the Electronic Connector Study Group in Cherry Hill , New Jersey. His 40 plus year business career included extensive travels in the United States, Canada and throughout Europe. He conducted several electrical interconnection Seminars including a presentation at Siemen's, AG in Germany.
He was an accomplished athlete and was selected as the New Bedford Standard Times "All Bristol County Quarterback" at Fairhaven High School in 1958. Dick went on to play Semi-Pro football for several years with the Fairhaven Varsity Club, including the team that won the Southeastern Massachusetts Semi-Pro Championship in 1959. He was a big local sports fan rooting for the Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots. He was an avid boater and fisherman and in 1963 designed and built his own 16' fishing boat. Dick owned many different power boats over the years and was a seasonal boater at many of the local marinas in Somerset and Fairhaven.
He is survived by a son, Kevin J. Holt and his wife Lorrie of Mattapoisett, two daughters, Lynne K. Besse and her husband Wayne of Fairhaven, Kelli A. Wolfgang and her husband William of Fairhaven, six grandchildren, Joseph Prezner of New Bedford, Ashley St. Don of New Bedford, Amanda Forcier of Fairhaven, Meghan Wolfgang of New Bedford, William Wolfgang of Fairhaven and Ryan Besse of Fairhaven, and eleven great grandchildren. He was also father to the late Barry Joseph Holt.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 9 am from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Joseph's Church, Spring St., Fairhaven. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Fairhaven. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4 - 6 pm in the funeral home. In Dick's memory, donations can be made to local animal shelters.
