

Born in New Bedford a son of the late John and Lydia (Jason) Souza, he was a lifelong area resident.
Richard served in the United States Air Force and he later earned a Masters Degree from Northeastern University. He worked as an electrical engineer at Raytheon, Hughes Aircraft Company, and Lockheed Martin. He also taught electronics at Old Colony Technical School.
In his spare time, he enjoyed sailing and learning new things. He was gifted with numbers and actually enjoyed doing his and his family’s taxes. He was very inquisitive and analytical. Richard enjoyed building and creating new electrical systems and radios. His family will remember him as a strong, independent and brilliant man. Richard enjoyed spending time with his wife and over the years he had built an incredible bond with his one and only granddaughter.
He is survived by his sons, Geoffrey Souza and Christopher Souza both of Fairhaven; his granddaughter, Sophie; his dear cousin, Joann Livramento of New Bedford; his brother-in-law; Allen Ponichtera and wife Gail of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John “Jack” Souza, Jr.
His funeral will be Friday, July 11, 2025 at 9 a.m. from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Main St., Fairhaven. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
