Robert A. “Bob” Correia, 84, of New Bedford, passed away on Monday, May 21, 2018 after a long illness. He was the loving husband of Patricia A. (Silva) Correia with whom she shared 34 years of marriage.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Manuel and Yvette (Delisle) Correia, he lived in Dartmouth for 65 years, moved to Florida with his wife then returned to New Bedford in 2002.
Mr. Correia had worked as an oil burner technician for the Bliss Staple Oil Company until his retirement. He was a proud on-call firefighter for the Town of Dartmouth for 15 years. He served as a Deputy Forest Warden for the Town of Dartmouth and dressed as Smokey the Bear in parades. Bob was a self-taught handy man who could fix almost anything. He was a member of the Dartmouth Rod and Gun Club and enjoyed fishing, boating, camping and trips to the casinos.
Surviving in addition to his beloved wife Patricia are his children, Carol Souza of Wareham, Candace Correia, Catherine Samson, Thomas Saunders and his wife Maureen and Pamela Saunders Houle and her husband Albert Houle all of New Bedford; a brother, Manuel Correia of California; two sisters, Irene Simmons of Dartmouth and Anne Marie Arruda of Tiverton; ten grandchildren, Trevor and Michael Samson, Robert and Daniel Saunders, Melissa Comeau, Ashley Bodeau, Courtney Comeau, Lindsey Houle, John Comeau and Kelsey Houle; five great-grandchildren, Joseph, Jovon, Kevin, Austin and Julien; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Albert Correia of Boston.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 6-9 p.m. in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME AT FAIRLAWN, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven. His Funeral will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 8 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Main St., Fairhaven.
