

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Robert P. Lawton. Robert passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on February 22, 2026, surrounded by his family at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Robert “Bob” was born in Acushnet, MA on June 15, 1943 to Charles and Mary Lawton. He is survived by his sister, Charlotte Nadeau, and her husband Normand; his niece, Julie Nadeau; six grandchildren, Nick O’Brien, Kirsti Levesque and her wife Kristen, Kayli Berche, Kari Berche, Kaci Berche, and Christopher Dudley; and his great-granddaughter, Amelia Grace Dudley. Robert was predeceased by his two sons, Andrew and Matthew Lawton, and was formerly married to Maureen (Roberts) Grace.
Bob attended Fairhaven Public Schools and graduated with Honors from Fairhaven High School in 1961. He was a member of the National Honor Society and a member of the championship baseball team in 1961. He graduated from Bridgewater State College in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Later, he went on to earn his Masters degree in Marine Biology from Southeastern University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. He dedicated over 30 years of his career to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Marine Fisheries Biologist in Buzzards Bay.
Bob had a great passion for sports and fishing. He especially enjoyed fishing with his sons, Andrew and Matthew. They spent many hours on the water fishing for bass and bluefish. He was an avid sports fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Bob coached little league baseball for several Fairhaven teams. He was very active and had many hobbies including: dancing, painting, reading, and writing. A man of deep faith and intellect, he was an active member of several Bible and reading groups.
Bob was a loving and compassionate soul who cherished every moment spent with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
