Born in New Bedford to the late Manuel and Mary (Mello) Frates, Sandra lived a life defined by service, compassion, and quiet strength.
Sandra’s professional and volunteer work reflected her heart for others. Early in her life, she worked at Fairhaven Savings Bank, bringing integrity, warmth, and respect into every interaction. After moving to live with her family in Georgetown, she served for many years as a Teacher’s Aide in the Georgetown Public Schools. There, she offered patience, dignity, and genuine love to students and their families, touching lives in ways that will be long remembered. Later, among her many volunteer roles, she devoted eight years of service to the Salvation Army, offering encouragement, time, and practical help to those experiencing hardship.
Above all her accomplishments was her devotion to family. Sandra was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose presence was a steady source of love and guidance. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Angela Moore and her husband John of Morrisville, NC; her cherished grandchildren, Dr. Lauren Kearney and her husband James of Jamaica Plain, and Rebecca Moore of Roslindale; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Avery Rae Kearney and Paige S. Kearney (whose middle initial honors her great-grandmother's Sandra and the late Shirley Davenport). She was predeceased by her dear sister, Mildred Frates.
Sandra’s faith guided her through life and inspired those around her. She was always the first to lend an encouraging word or a thoughtful gesture, often putting others’ needs before her own. Her values weren’t just spoken; they were woven into every interaction, every decision, and every act of kindness.
Those who knew Sandra will remember her for her empathy, her selfless heart, and her boundless capacity to love. She leaves behind not only the countless lives she touched through her work and service, but also a living legacy in her family, who carry forward her spirit of compassion, generosity, and love for others.
In her passing, we honor a woman who gave without expectation, who loved without boundary, and whose quiet strength shaped the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. May her memory remain a blessing and an inspiration for generations to come.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to one of two causes: Gal’s Best Pal (where her granddaughter, Rebecca, dedicates countless volunteer hours) at https://galsbestpal.com/donate/, or Sarah Roberts Elementary School (attended by her beloved great-granddaughters) via https://givebutter.com/KlMNgP
