Shirley M. Lague

Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late George and Catherine (Tootle) Peckham she lived most of her life in New Bedford. She was a member of the Dartmouth Bible Church.

Mrs. Lague attended New Bedford Schools. She did work as chamber maid for the Comfort Inn. Shirley was a member of the Mt. Carmel Senior Group and she thoroughly enjoyed traveling. She was especially proud of her trip to Israel – the Holy Land.

She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Benevides and her husband Thomas of Wareham and Rosalie Tardif and her husband Robert of Lakeville; grandchildren, Gary Hignite, Jr., Christopher Hignite, Andrew Benevides, Janey Vinci, Adam Benevides, and Noelle Tardif; great grandchildren, Jacob Hignite, Jasmine Hignite, Leonardo Vinci, and Theodore Vinci. She was the mother of the late Gary Hignite.

Her visitation will be Friday, September 18, 2026 in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven from 10-11 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Acushnet Cemetery. For online tribute/directions: www.waring-sullivan.com.
