Theresa M. Chouinard

Theresa Marie (Thomas) Chouinard, 89, of Dartmouth, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Roger M. Chouinard, with whom she shared 66 years of marriage.

Born and raised in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Shelbino and Mary B. (Marinelli) Thomas.

Theresa was a graduate of Holy Family High School. She worked for the New England Telephone Company for several years, and the New Bedford School Department taking care of children with special needs for at least 25 years.

She was a generous, giving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Spending time with her family was very important. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards, and watching all the old black and white movies. Her gentle smile will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her loving children, Lisa Chouinard of Dartmouth, Lynne Tavares and her husband Charles of CT, Mark Chouinard and his wife Kimberly of Fairhaven, and Paul Chouinard and his husband Bruce Peoples of Tiverton, RI; five grandchildren, Alexander Tavares of Boston, Victoria Sousoulas and her husband Kostas of CT, Stephanie Fonseca and her husband Christopher of New Bedford, Caitlin Chouinard of New Bedford, and Nicholas Chouinard of Fairhaven; two great-grandchildren, Myles Lopes of Fall River, and Aaliyah Fonseca of New Bedford, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Joseph Thomas, Joan Galligan and Ann Donato.

Her Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025 at 10:30AM in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 233 County St. New Bedford, MA 02740. Everyone is to go directly to church. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Bedford.
