

Riley Patrick Counahan, 16, of Hudson, passed away unexpectedly June 30, 2018. He was born December 22, 2001 in Jackson Township, beloved son of Chris and Michelle (Kepke) Counahan. He attended St. Hilary Middle School and was an upcoming junior at University School in Hunting Valley.
Riley was known for his warmth, dry sense of humor, and giving and inclusive spirit. He was thoughtful and kind, full of humility and brought joy to all that were fortunate to have known him. He was a member of the Varsity Hockey Team at University School. He also was a part of the JV Lacrosse Team, Track and Field, along with the US News Podcast. He volunteered at the Akron/Canton Regional Food Bank and attended Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Peninsula. He loved playing hockey from a young age and was a proud goalie of the Columbus Chill Youth Hockey Association, Cleveland Barons, and Team Ohio. Riley enjoyed traveling with family and friends and was a loving big brother and role model to his younger brother Colin.
Riley will be forever loved and missed by his parents, Chris and Michelle, brother Colin, grandmothers Connie Kepke and Lynda Vanlandingham, uncle Sean Kepke and many great aunts, great uncles, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandfathers Timothy Counahan and James Kepke and uncle Timmy Counahan.
Funeral arrangements will be made by Rose Hill Funeral Home, 3653 W Market Street, Fairlawn, OH with calling hours on Thursday, July 5 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, July 6 at St. Hilary Catholic Church, 2750 W Market Street, Fairlawn, OH at 11:00 am. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.rosehillbp.com
In lieu of flowers, those who so desire can make donations to The Riley Counahan Memorial Fund, which can be made at any Northeast Ohio Key Bank branch or mailed to 1737 Georgetown Road Suite i 1 Hudson, Ohio 44236. Funds will be distributed to the Akron / Canton Regional Food Bank and causes important to Riley. Donations could also be made to the Epilepsy Foundation in his name.
