Andrew Chiappa

Andrew Chiappa was born on April 5, 1925, in Parma, Italy, to John and Mary Chiappa. Growing up in a close-knit family, Andrew shared his early years with siblings: Joe, Albino, Lena, Anthony, and Joanne. His journey through life was marked by a deep sense of service and commitment to both his family and his country.

A proud Veteran, Andrew served honorably in the United States Army from 1943 to 1963, participating in the pivotal moments of World War II and the Korean War. His military career was distinguished by his unwavering dedication and courage, which earned him the respect and admiration of his peers.

Following his retirement from military service, Andrew transitioned to civilian life with the same vigor and determination. He became a supervisor in local steel mills, where his leadership and work ethic left a lasting impact. Later, he served as the Humane Officer for the City of Granite City for a decade, reflecting his commitment to community welfare.

Andrew’s life was enriched by his marriage to Elva Vickers in November 1976, a partnership that brought warmth and joy to his days. Together, they nurtured a loving family, including his stepchildren LeeAnn Bronson and Scott Vickers. His legacy is carried forward by his six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life.

A man of faith, Andrew was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, where he found camaraderie and purpose. His leisure time was often spend immersed in these passions for fishing and working on his various “projects”, pursuits that brought him great joy and tranquility.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elva, his parents, John and Mary, siblings Joe, Albino and Lena Chiappa, and his son, John Chiappa. His surviving family members including his brother Anthony and sister Joanne Gregson, son Jim Chiappa and Beth Chiappa, Daughter Donna Roach and Son Joe and Dee Chiappa carry forward his spirit and values.

In accordance with his wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held. The family expresses their gratitude to the wonderful staff at Eden Village in Glen Carbon for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that those who wish to honor Andrew’s memory consider donating to a charity of their choice, reflecting his generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
