Anna is preceded in death by her parents, her son and 10 siblings.
She leaves to mourn her devoted daughter, Tracy McMullen-Howlett and son-in-law Darius Howlett Sr. of Shiloh IL; two grandsons, Dietrich and Darius Jr; two granddaughters, McKenzie and Deneen; one sister, Ellen Cobbins (Charles) Wimauma, FL; her niece/sister Dorothy Bester (Edsel) Florissant, MO; a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; great-great nieces and great-great nephews; and longtime friends and colleagues Sharon Goodwin and Thelma Clark.
She was educated in the St. Louis Public School system where she attended and graduated from Soldan High School in 1963. She married Joseph McMullen in November 1966. Two children were born to this union, Tracy and Rahhotep. In 1967 she joined Southwestern Bell Telephone where she worked until she retired in 2000. Anna enjoyed cooking, listening to music, working crossword puzzles, video poker, and studying the twelve signs of the Zodiac. Anna was not a very talkative person but she would eagerly engage in a conversation about the personality traits of your Zodiac sign. Anna was also an avid reader. Some of her favorite African-American authors were: Bebe Moore Campbell, Mary Monroe, Lolita Files, E. Lynn Harris, Carl Weber, Kimberla Lawson Roby, J. D. Mason and Roslyn McMillan. Her all-time favorite book was The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah.
Memorial Services will be private at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, Illinois.
