Bette A Ellet

May 24, 1933January 10, 2021

Bette Ann (nee Winchester) Ellet, 87, formerly of Caseyville, Illinois, was born May 24th, 1933, in Bangor, Maine, and passed away on Sunday, January 10th, 2021, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, Illinois. Bette graduated from Brewer High School in Brewer, Maine. She worked at Dow Air Force Base, Bangor, Maine, as a secretary, where she met her future husband, Loyd Dean Ellet. They moved to Caseyville, Illinois, where they married and had 3 children. Bette went back to work at Scott AFB as a secretary until she retired in 1988. After Loyd retired, they spent their winter months in Florida, returning home to play with the grandkids in the warmer months. Bette was a long-time member of the O’Fallon United Church of Christ and served on their Guild. In Augusts 2018, she broke her shoulder and moved into the Colonnades Assisted Living Center in O’Fallon, Illinois, where she enjoyed making new friends, playing cards, bingo and various other activities. One of her greatest joys was visiting with her kids, grandkids, and great-grands. Even during COVID lockdowns, they would go visit with her while she stood outside on her 2nd floor balcony!

Both Bette and Loyd loved Maine and returned to Brewer to enjoy the lake and visit with relatives every summer. Even after Loyd’s death, Bette continued to go to Maine until COVID hit and she could no longer safely travel.
