Carla Sue Barrett

Carla Sue Barrett, 64, of Belleville, Illinois, passed away on September 18, 2026. Born on July 17, 1962, to Oron and Louise (nee Krauthamer) Kuykendall. Carla will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection by all who were blessed to know her.

Carla carried through life with a spirit marked by courage and steady resilience, meeting each season with a gentle strength that inspired those around her. She was deeply cherished and beloved—someone whose kindness was not merely spoken of, but felt in the way she listened, the way she gave, and the thoughtful care she extended to family and friends. Even in ordinary moments, Carla’s warm humor had a way of easing hearts and drawing people close.

From her earlier years, Carla’s lively personality shown through the small, unforgettable ways she made herself known—sticking out her tongue at everyone as a signature goodbye of sorts, and bringing a sense of fun and adventure wherever she went. She also delighted in visiting her sister’s house to try on all her shoes, a simple joy that reflected her playful, spirited nature.

Carla looked ahead with hope and intention, and she was actively looking forward to retirement, often speaking about the plans she had for the years to come. That forward-looking optimism—paired with her devotion to those she loved—remained a defining part of her life.

On April 10th, 2010, Carla married the love of her life, James Edward Barrett. They shared 16 years of love, life, and marriage—years shaped by devotion, tenderness, and the quiet strength of a true partnership. Carla dearly loved her sweet dog, Max, and she was a loving sister to Debbie Lavnick and Robbie Wellener, and a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews, holding a special place in her heart for each of them.

Carla’s joys were often found in togetherness. James taught Carla how to play poker, a game they played often and enjoyed greatly, sharing laughter and companionship across the table. Carla also loved to sing and had a lovely singing voice—one that brought beauty and comfort to those who heard it.

A woman of deep faith, Carla was very devout and lived that devotion with sincerity. She shared her faith through years of service as a long-time member of her church choir, offering her voice in worship and her presence in fellowship.

Visitation will be held at Towerview Baptist Church, 2401 Lebanon Ave, Belleville, IL 62221, on September 28, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A Funeral Service will follow at Towerview Baptist Church on September 28, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. With food and fellowship to follow at the Church Hall.

Carla Sue Barrett will be remembered for her compassionate heart, her generous spirit, her gentle steadiness, and the love she gave so freely. Her life remains a lasting gift to those who carry her memory forward.
