

Carol Ann Schmitt, of Highland, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2025, at Breese Nursing home with loved ones by her side. Born April 15, 1945, in Louisville, KY, she was the beloved daughter of Harvey and Mary Hawkins.
Carol was known for her sweet disposition and warmth she brought to everyone she met. She was also known for her deep faith in her God, Jehovah. On January 25,1958, at the age of 12, she was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Paducah, Kentucky, and was a longtime member of the Highland Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She loved to share the good news of God’s Kingdom with others, devoting many hours a month to this passion.
Carol married her sweetheart, David Schmitt, on September 9, 1979, a union that brought immense joy to her life. They were inseparable, and their love has been an inspiration to many.
Throughout her life, Carol held various jobs, including being a waitress, substitute teacher, and secretary, where she touched many lives with her kindness and dedication. She had a deep love for flowers and nature, and in her younger years, she expressed her creativity through painting.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Harvey and Mary Hawkins, and her younger brother, Danny Ray Hawkins.
She is survived by her loving husband, David Schmitt of Highland, Illinois; her sister, Donna Holloway of Belleville, Illinois; two stepsons, David Schmitt and Mark Schmitt; one step grandson; numerous nieces, nephews, and many who loved her dearly.
A memorial service to honor Carol's life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 1:00 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Highland, Illinois, with Jeff Hoepker presiding.
Carol Ann Schmitt will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will continue to inspire those who were part of her life.
