Dan proudly served his country in the United States Army, during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Swansea Moose Lodge, a parishioner at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Shiloh, Illinois, and a member of the Jolly Seniors Club at the church. He volunteered for 26 years at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and proudly participated in the Passion Play at Cathedral of St. Peter in Belleville.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lois M. Schomaker, nee Stretz; his parents, Bernard and Theresa, nee Baahlmann, Schomaker, Sr.; his siblings and spouses, Loretta (Ed) Hodel, Robert (Mildred) Schomaker, Bernard Schomaker, Jr., Elsie (Wesley) Little, and Theresa (Alan)Benson; and two nephews, Michael Little and Kevin Benson.
Surviving are his sister, Esther (Robert) Riedel, of Shiloh, Illinois; sister-in-law, Gerry Schomaker, of St. Louis; two very special friends, Bob Peter and Sister Rosalie; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses and aides at Cedar Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center, in Lebanon, Illinois.
Memorials are appreciated to the Cedar Ridge Activity Fund or in the form of masses to Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
Funeral: A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2013, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Shiloh, Illinois with Monsignor James Margason officiating. Interment will be held privately in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Shiloh, Illinois.
