Arlene was born on March 14, 1925, in Victoria, Illinois, to the late Alvah Sherman McNaught and Viola Verne McNaught (nee Douglas). Throughout a long life marked by steady purpose and quiet strength, she remained a source of inspiration to those who knew her.
Arlene spent over 30 years in Sun City West, Arizona. During her life, she married three times, with each husband preceding her in death. She took great pride in her career in the military and served her country as a Navy veteran and Medic. Her discipline and determination were evident in all she pursued, including her remarkable skill as a pilot and as an expert “Sharpshooter,” earning hundreds of 1st Place Medals in recognition of that extraordinary ability.
In her personal life, Arlene’s creativity and patience articulated in the things she made and shared. She enjoyed quilting and knitting, creating beautiful Afghan blankets and spectacular baskets—work that reflected both talent and care. She also loved playing cards and attending card parties, finding enjoyment in the company and connection those gatherings brought.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Alvah and Viola McNaught, and three siblings. She is survived by her sister, Olive “June” Gordan (of California); great-niece, L. Michelle King (of Fairview Heights, Illinois); and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society (in their local areas).
