Dorothy May Barker, 93, of Belleville, passed away Monday, October 2, 2023. She was born August 25, 1930 in Marion, IL to William C. and Bertha (nee Hood) Trumble. At a young age, Dorothy learned the ins and outs of bookkeeping from her father who had many clients in East St. Louis. When he died, Dorothy continued serving those clients. Dorothy married the love of her life, Marshall Glenn Barker January 25, 1950. They enjoyed boating together until his passing in 1996. She was a typesetter for Hepp Printing Company, retiring in 1992. Dorothy was a member of Union United Methodist Church and was very active in United Methodist Women, serving as Treasurer for many years. She also served as bookkeeper for ten years for International Leadership Group, an organization consisting of current and retired pastors, university professors and financial leaders formed to develop a Christian Studies program at Peking University in Beijing, China. In this role, Dorothy maintained financial records, keeping track of donations, donors and expenditures with an annual budget of $500,000. Dorothy also had a love for the game of bowling. She had remarkable talent and won many bowling awards over the years. Dorothy will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors left to cherish her memory include her nephews, Danny and Dickey Stimmel and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marshall Glenn Barker; sister, Betty Miller and niece, Barbara Stimmel.
Funeral service for Dorothy will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023 at 11:00am in Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 N. Illinois St., Fairview Heights, IL 62208 with Rev. Allynn Walker officiating. A visitation prior to the service will begin at 10:00am. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions can be made to Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House or Union United Methodist Church.
