

Dorothy Mae Cato (nee Woodfin), age 102, passed away on May 23, 2026, in Caseyville, Illinois. A resident of Caseyville for 60 years, Dorothy was deeply cherished and will be remembered with enduring respect and gratitude by all who knew and loved her.
Dorothy was born on February 29, 1924, in Dongola, Missouri, to the late Charles Dewey Woodfin and Icy Woodfin (nee Kirkpatrick).
For 40 years, Dorothy served as a laboratory technician at Norwood Laboratory in Saint Charles, Missouri. Her long career reflected a steady devotion to her work and a life marked by quiet constancy.
Dorothy married Paul Edward Cato on September 5, 1942, in Advance, Missouri. Together, they raised seven children. Dorothy loved and cherished her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren—and her family meant everything to her. She wished to be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Icy Woodfin; her husband, Paul E. Cato; sons, Jerry (Patricia) Cato and Charles (Belinda - living) Cato; daughters, JoAnn (Jack) Wood and Karen Arriola; granddaughter, Paula Cato; and grandsons, Jerry (Linda - living) Cato, Jason (Jennifer – living) Cato, and Anthony Cato.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Jim (Kristi) Cato, Donald (Jan) Cato, and Brenda (Richard) Gorsuch; grandchildren, Angie (Kevin) Campbell, Brian Cato, Paul (Kerri) Cato, Tyson (Elizabeth) Cato, Ashley (Kyle) Kerkemeyer, James (Krista) Cato, Jeffrey Cato, Paulette (Ricky) George, Jacob (Melanie) Meyer, Clair (Mark) Baker, Mariah (Abel) Hernandez, Ciara Arriola, and Madisyn Gordon; and many great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 North Illinois Street, Fairview Heights, IL 62208. A Funeral Service will follow on Monday, June 1, 2026, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Lake View Funeral Home.
Committal will take place on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery, Marble Hill, MO 63764.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s honor to Heartland Hospice.
