

Edna Aleen Briley, nee Vaugh, 89, peacefully entered into rest at her daughter’s home in Arnold, MO on Wednesday, May 24. Edna was born on February 21, 1928 to Samuel Allen and Blanche, nee Scott, Vaugh and raised in rural Ste. Genevieve County, MO.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Anna Lee (Harold) Mouser, Dorothy Forsythe, Jeanie (Bob) Greeson; and her husband, Glenwood E. Briley, Sr. whom she married on December 3, 1946 in East St. Louis, IL.
Surviving to cherish memories are all nine of their children, Barbara (Rusty) Phipps, Kenneth (Sylvia) Briley, Glen (Sis) Briley, Jr., Michael Briley, Samuel Briley, Rick Briley, Jeanie (Jim) Schroeder, Jane (Bill) Cross, and Jan Briley; grandchildren, Ronnie (Michaelle) Steed, Wesley (Steed, Angel Helmkamp, Perry (Scott) Tripp, Carolyn (Jamey) Crossland, Marilyn Briley, Kenneth (Mirah) Briley, Jr., Sherry (Ronnie) Gravot, John Briley, Samuel Briley, Jr., Dawn (Tammy) Briley, Vicki (Marty) Lanasky, David Briley, Jimmy (Crystal) Schroeder, Jamie (Pat) Haley, Rebeca (Ryan) Burkard, and Amanda Cross; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Edna is also survived by her brother Denny (Judy) Vaugh of Farmington, MO and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
To her children, Edna was a full-time devoted mother, excellent cook, barber, seamstress, gardener, peacemaker, problem-solver, housekeeper, and best friend. She also fulfilled her patriotic duty by loaning all five of her sons to our country’s military service.
After becoming a young widow in 1974, Edna became employed at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, IL followed by 13 years with Midcoast Aviation’s aircraft upholstery department in Sauget, IL.
Edna was an extraordinary woman, and truly fulfilled the Bible’s description of a virtuous woman, Provers 31: 10-31.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 N. Illinois, Fairview Heights, IL 62208.
Funeral: Services will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Lake View Funeral Home with Pastor Russell Brewer (Emmanuel Nazarene Church) officiating. Interment will be held in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
