He was born on September 11, 1932, in East St. Louis, IL, to the late Sigmund and Anastasia (nee Smerek) Zakszewski.
Ed proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, a role that shaped his character and instilled in him a lifelong sense of honor and duty. Following his service, he built a long and dedicated career with Conrail before retiring. In his leisure time, he found joy in the great-outdoors, especially golfing and fishing, where he cherished both the sport and the fellowship it brought.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded by his loving wife, Rosemary (nee Pencak) Zakszewski, whom he married on June 6, 1958; four brothers: Leo, Frank, George, and Sigmund “Cotton” Zakszewski; and sister Lillian Pavlisin.
He is survived by his son, Edward R. Zakszewski.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 11:30 am with Father Rob Johnson celebrant.
