Elsie Fern Sieber (nee Loomis), of Millstadt, Illinois, passed away with her loving daughter at her side, on February 17th, 2026, at the age of 102. She was born to Clarence and Nora (nee Blackwood) Loomis on October 8th, 1923, in East St. Louis, Illinois.
Elsie was preceded in death by both of her parents, Clarence and Nora Loomis, her beloved husband Warren E. Sieber, Siblings: Helen Loomis, Clarence Loomis Jr., Charlie Loomis, Thelma Loomis, Paul Loomis, Dorothy Loomis, and Earl Loomis.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Larry (Erna) Sieber and Lynn Gass, grandchildren: Andrew Sieber, Brent (Jamie) Sieber, Ben (Tonya) Gass, Nora (Justin) Reeg, great-grandchildren: Broadie and Bryce Sieber, Audrey Sieber, Lily and Jack Gass, and many dear friends and family members.
In her early days, Elsie worked at the Commonwealth Loan Company. When the kids got a little older, a neighbor suggested she work at the school as a cook, so she could have the summers off and be with the kids. Elsie absolutely loved this job and took pride in serving and caring for the kids at her school. This love for taking care of others continued into her later life when she would go to the nursing homes and pack lunches for “the old people” as she called them, even well into her 80s herself. Elsie never felt old.
Elsie was always keeping busy, she was always out and about, since she never drove, she loved to walk everywhere she went. Elsie loved watching and caring for her grandkids; the family joked that Elsie never really retired, as she was always doing something to keep busy. Once she moved to Millstadt, she started a routine of going to the Senior Center five days a week, where she would visit with others and enjoy the company of her friends. She also had her routine of going to church every Sunday, where she loved listening to Pastor Matt, often speaking of his laughter.
Elsie was always so particular about her appearance; she liked to have her hair always done and a nice outfit on. She was a candidate for homecoming queen at her high school and was a part of the homecoming court. She looked like a real Movie Star on most days.
Elsie was a social butterfly; she loved spending time with others. She was a member of a German Drum and Bugle band, as well as her Kitchen Band where she played the Kazoo. Elsie also loved playing Canasta with her friends. When the kids were growing up, they recall hearing mom and her lady friends laughing and having a grand time, long after the kids had been put to bed.
Elise loved her family dearly and cherished the time she spent with each and every one of them. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all. She will be greatly missed by all whom lives she touched, as she truly was a joy to be around.
Visitation will be held at Lake View Funeral Home, located at 5000 North Illinois Street, Fairview Heights, IL 62208, on Tuesday, 2/24, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
