Gus L. Kassing

August “Gus” L. Kassing, 99, born, February 5, 1919, in O’Fallon, IL, passed away, June 4, 2018 in Belleville, IL.
Gus possessed a kind and gentle persona. He married the love of his life, Mildred “Millie” Schleicher on December 11, 1968. He retired from the Scott Air Force Base Excahnge after 33 years. He worked as a civil serviceman in bookkeeping. Gus enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles and spending time with his family and friends. Even at the age of 99, he remained independent and sharp. Gus was a loving step dad, grandpa, great grandpa, uncle and friend. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Mildred Marie (nee Schleicher) Kassing, his parents; August C. Kassing and Zoella R. (nee Scheibel) Stites, his brother, Raymond Kassing, nieces and nephews/great nieces and nephews; Kathleen Kennedy, Richard Kassing, Travis Kassing, and Nicole Kennedy.
Surviving him are his step son, Roger (Ruth) Carnaghi, his step grandchildren; Cathy (John) Martfeld and James Carnaghi, his step great-grandchildren; Connor and Colton Martfeld, his nieces and nephew, Larry (Joyce) Kassing, Denise Kelso, and Angela Kassing and a number of dear great nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation: Friends and family may visit from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, Friday, June 8, 2018 at Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 N Illinois Street, Fairview Heights, IL 62208.
Funeral Service: Funeral Services will be held immediately following visitation at 11:00 am, Lake View Funeral Home, with Father Kenneth York officiating. Interment to take place privately at Lake View Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Fairview Heights, IL.
