Helen Schwendeman

Loving Mother and Grandmother, Mary "Helen" (Arterbury) Schwendeman (nee McCune) our family's matriarch, age 83, of Belleville, Illinois passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023. Helen was born in Miller County, Arkansas on September 8, 1939 to the late Jesse Lee and the late Stella Allene (nee Cox) Arterbury, Sr. She spent her entire life in her beloved hometown of Belleville, IL, a community she was happy to call home.

Helen is also preceded in death by her daughter, Sheila Kay Kindhardt and her siblings, Evelyn Loise Stringer, Charles W. Arterbury, Jesse Lee Arterbury, Jr., Opal Marie Spralt, Irma Jean Symonds, Leon Arterbury and Sylvia Sue Smith.

Helen loved her family, enjoyed and loved life from roller skating, live concerts and running her catering and cleaning company. She was a very active member of St. Matthews Methodist Church in Belleville, Illinois and a dedicated member. Helen was loved by many will be greatly missed.

Helen is survived by her children, Charles Russell McCune, Christopher Alan Schwendeman (Renee), Vicki Lynn McCune, Lisa Marie Schwendeman and Leah Michelle Schwendeman; her 6 grandchildren, Justin Schwendeman, Seth Schwendeman, Nick McCune, Kody Kindhardt (Murphy), Ian Athas and Aron Athas; her 5 great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Carter and Kylie McCune and Redmond Earl and Otis Quincy; Helen is also survived by a large extended family and great friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2023 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm in Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 N. Illinois St., Fairview Heights, IL 62208. A second visitation is scheduled for Helen Schwendeman on Monday, April the 24, 2023 at Lake View Funeral Home from 12pm to 1pm with celebration of life to begin at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Memory and Aging Project at Washington University, an organization that meant alot to Helen, or the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Helen.
