

His beloved wife Lorna (nee Sanders) of 56 years preceded him in death in 2016. Also preceding him in passing are both his parents, Herbert and Edna (nee Holmes) Nunes, as well as his sister Jackie Rogier, whom passed in 2015.
Bill is survived by his son, Steve (Stephanie) Nunes, of Edwardsville, and daughter Laurie (Roland) Jones of Glen Carbon. As well as his four grandchildren: Derek and Keira Nunes, and Evan and Carlie Jones.
Bill and his wife Lorna were longtime members of the Church of God.
Nunes was a graduate of East St. Louis High 1957. He went on to earn three degrees from SIU at Edwardsville. He was “Teacher of the Year” at Collinsville High and taught for 24 years at Edwardsville High before retiring in 1993. Bill was designated “Hometown Hero” for Glen Carbon in 2016. Nunes went on to have a second career as a writer, doing weekly columns for the Edwardsville Intelligencer. He became known locally as the “King of Self-publishing” authoring 34 books on Illinois, St. Louis, and U.S. History; he also wrote five novels.
