

He excelled in athleticism, receiving a scholarship for baseball and track from Mizzou, where he attended for a period of time before joining the US Air Force. He was an avid golfer. He retired from Monsanto and Hartman Walsh Co.
Preceding him in death were his mother and father, Meatrice and Ivan; son and grandson, Vince and Elijah; sister, Emma Burgess; in-laws, Robert and Ila McMillian, Charlie Parker, Norma and Jack Lintner, Roy Burgess and son-in-law, Larry Shannahan.
He is survived by his wife, Rose; daughters, Vicki (Mark) Dawkins, Kristi (Bruce) Franklin; sons, Richard (Tina) Richardson and Dusty (Diane) Richardson; sister, Darlene Parker; grandchildren, Dustin (Eva), Grace, Amanda, Kane (Carlee), Gene Richardson, Adam (Christina) Franklin, Bruce Franklin Jr., Erik (Katy) Shannahan, Joe Dawkins and Cassie (Austin) Prichart; 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews; and his beloved buddy, “Rudy Dog”.
Gene was a very caring and giving person. He loved being with family and friends. He was a member of St. John UCC in Collinsville, IL.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, St. John UCC, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
There will be no services, per Gene’s request to be cremated. Private burial will be held at a later date.
