By his teen years his family had moved to Alton, Illinois where he went to Alton High School and met the love of his life, Bonnie Hafford, who between dating and marriage were together for 60 years.
In his early adulthood, Jack worked as a Jack-of-all-trades but eventually settled into a path that would have him work in retail management most of his career. Jack was a dependable and hard-working man with every job he had throughout the years. He was not focused on climbing a career ladder, work was simply a means to an end, the goal of which was providing for his family.
Early in their marriage, Jack and Bonnie were blessed with two daughters, Julia Chaney and Beth Albert (Chaney) but their family would not be complete for several more years until the addition of their son Jerry Chaney. Jack was a devoted father who often wore his heart on his sleeve, he swelled with endless pride for his wife and children.
Over the years, his love and pride grew with each new addition to the family; son-in-law Patrick Albert, granddaughters Nicole Albert, Sarah Albert, Megan Lindenmier (Albert), daughter-in-law Eden Chaney, grandchildren Brooklynn Chaney, Graham Chaney, Everett Chaney, grandson-in-law Steven Lindenmier and great-grandson Jaxson Lindenmier.
Jack passed away at home on January 10, 2026, at the age of 76, surrounded by his loving family. His immediate family will hold a private inurnment service on February 3, 2026 at Lake View Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
