Jackie G. Robinson

Jackie Gene “Jack” Robinson, 82, of Fairview Heights, Illinois, born on August 5, 1933, in Carbondale, Illinois, passed away on July 9, 2016 at Four Fountains Convalescent Center, in Belleville, Illinois, with his loving family by his side.

Jack was a locomotive engineer for Illinois Central Railroad, where he worked for 40 years and a Fairview Heights Volunteer Firefighter for 38 years. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Fairview Heights and served as a deacon for 33 years. Jack enjoyed camping, fishing, and serving on the funeral dinner committee at church, but his most precious moments were those spent with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lon and Mary, nee Swinford, Robinson; two brothers, Lon and Leonard Robinson; and his step-father, Henry Winter.

Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Barbara L. Robinson; two daughters, Betty (Bob) Nelson and Karen (Paul) Blum; one son, Jackie Gene (Bonnie) Robinson; ten grandchildren, Daniel (Chris) Nelson, Benjamin (Stephanie) Nelson, Cassie Blum, Joshua (Jasmine) Blum, Ashley (Garrett) Call, Justin Robinson, Steffani (Mark) Verduin, Chi (Chuck) Pelo, Tori DeVries, and Joey (Stephanie) Pieper; and fourteen great-grandchildren, Declan Nelson, Sydney Nelson, Elijah Nelson, Malachi Nelson, Carter Daniels, Dalton Call, Kaytie Williamson, Kyle Williamson, Matthew Williamson, Marriana Williamson, Damian Kulash, Lily Pelo, Ruby DeVries and Keenan Pieper.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m., Friday, July 15, 2016 at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, Illinois and from 9-10 a.m., Saturday, July 16, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Fairview Heights, Illinois. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Jim Kerr officiating. Interment in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Illinois.
