Janet Ann Furmanek, nee Ziombra, born December 29, 1951, passed away on August 4, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer. Janet was a selfless, compassionate, thoughtful, and fun-loving person who led a fulfilling life, putting others first. She was a dedicated wife and loving mother who always went above and beyond to make sure her family was well cared for with love and support.
She spent twenty-two years working as a Respiratory Therapist at Memorial Hospital in Belleville where she developed a very strong bond with her spirited, mischievous co-workers whom she regarded as close friends. When her time at Memorial ended, she fully embraced a new chapter in her life, motherhood.
She enjoyed volunteering with other moms at St. Clare Catholic Grade School in O’Fallon helping in the classroom and the cafeteria. As a devout Catholic her faith led her to be an active member of St. Nicholas parish in O’Fallon from volunteering to bring in food for funerals, to selling scripts after Mass, to being an Alter Angel. When she wasn’t volunteering or working you would find her elbow deep in her flower garden, stretched out with a book in her hand, or pedaling her bike around the neighborhood.
As an animal lover, Janet enjoyed caring for her various pets throughout the years, especially one very spoiled, and opinionated Bichon Frise. Above all she cherished her time spent with her loving children, her daughter, son-in-law, and two amazing, special young women she considered her own. Janet will be deeply missed by those who knew her.
She is survived by her husband Frederick Furmanek; daughter Gabby (Josh) Young, her brother Greg (Cheryl) Ziombra, her sister Ellen Brawner, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents John and Cecelia (nee Raslawski) Ziombra, her Uncle John Raslawski, and her brother-in-law J. Stephen Brawner.
