Joe was retired from the United States Postal Service, where he served over thirty years. He was also a veteran of the United States Army.
Joe was a truly kind, good-natured, funny, and generous person. He was a devoted son who cared for his parents for many years. Joe doted on his young nieces, making sure that the usual Strawberry Shortcake and Cabbage Patch birthday and Christmas gifts were supplemented by toy trucks, camping supplies, and all the things that made noise and required batteries. He made sure they learned to play checkers and UNO and then later, chess and poker. Joe liked to fish, root for the Cardinals, and feast on White Castle belly bombers. In his later years, the memories of growing up on Belmont Ave. in East St. Louis stayed strong and always brought a laugh - stick ball in the vacant lot, the friends from St. Joe’s, and a house always full of extended family.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Bernadette, nee O’Brien, Williams.
Surviving are his twin sister, Mary E. Mueller; his sister, Kathleen B. Williams; two nieces, Julie (Matt) Nickols and Dr. Margaret Mueller; a great-nephew; and great-nieces.
A private service will be held and burial will be at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
