Lorene Catherine Johnson of O’Fallon, Illinois, passed away November 21, 2018 at her residence. She was born in Glen Crossing, Illinois on November 5, 1924. She was preceded in death by her parents John Mateyka and Minnie (Ernst) Mateyka, and her two siblings, Melvin Mateyka and Laverne Veith.
Lorene married Herman F. Neubauer in 1945 and he pre-deceased her in 1968. Lorene remarried to Harold Tenting in 1970 and was again widowed in 1977. Lorene then remarried Clayton Johnson in 1979 and they enjoyed 39 years of marriage until Clayton’s death on November 4, 2018. Lorene and Clayton resided in Port St. Lucie, Florida for 20 years before returning home to Illinois 10 years ago.
Lorene is survived by her two sons, Terry J. Neubauer (Elizabeth Laney) of Swansea, Illinois; Timothy R. Neubauer (Jon Ann) of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren Stacy A. Kitchens (Jimmy); Allison Gonzales (Eduardo); Nicole Pfaudler (John); Todd A. Neubauer (Janine); and great-grandchildren, Wenton, Dylan, Jorge, Eduardo, Jack, Tim, Gia, Alex and Dax.
Lorene, known to her classmates as “Teka”, was an accomplished business woman and homemaker. She maintained a lifelong attitude of “always do the best you can at whatever you do.”
A special mention and heartfelt thank you to Clayton’s children Kayla Koerber (nee Johnson) for her steadfast assistance, and to Kevin Johnson for his priceless, loving care given to our mother, Lorene, and to his father, Clayton; the Collanades in O’Fallon, Illinois and the Hospice caregivers.
