Born on May 29, 1933, in East St. Louis, IL, Madeline was the beloved daughter of the late Plummer and Hilda (Granget) Bailey.
She was a remarkable woman who truly could do anything — from sewing and crafting to painting houses. A true “Jane of all trades,” she carried both skill and determination into every task she set her mind to. Particular in her ways yet endlessly creative, she enjoyed canning, beating people at dominos and Canasta, and lovingly making baby dolls, quilts, even wedding dresses for many loved ones.
With a sassy spirit and a love for adventure, she embraced life to the fullest. She had a passion for photography and traveling, often being the center of attention wherever she went — affectionately known to many as “Queen Madeline.” Always stylish, she never went anywhere without her earrings and lipstick, and when asked to go somewhere, she would already have her bags packed, ready for the next adventure.
She lived boldly, tried everything at least once, and created a lifetime of memories that her family and friends will forever treasure.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Ted Patterson, whom she married July 7, 1951; sister and her husband: Shirley and Charles “Chuck” Dillihay; and brother, Bert Bailey.
She is survived by her children: Harley Ralph Patterson of Waterloo, IL, Sharon (Berry) Black of Waterloo, IL, and Jeanne (Carl Specking) Haley of Festus, MO; her grandchildren, Dr. Brandi (Daniel Collins) Pettis, Dustin Patterson, Jared (Christine) Patterson, Bryan (Deidre Piers) Black, Sheri (James Milburn) Black, Jennifer (Rickie) Lucas, Stefanie (Sam) McCanless, and Steven (Melissa) Haley Jr.; great-grandchildren, Branden Owens, Dylan Owens, Ava Lucas, Olivia Lucas, Taylor Patterson, Caden Patterson, Brooklyn Patterson, Brody Patterson, Teddy Patterson, Tinsley Patterson, Blakely Patterson, MaKayla Todd, Chase Downing, Addisyn Downing, Rebecca Collins, and Victoria Collins; sister, Jackie Brown, known by Madeline as “Bubbles”; her daughter-in-law, Jean Patterson of Waterloo, IL; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
