Mary attended Bunkum School and Belleville Township High School; and graduated in 1968. She went to college to follow her dream of becoming a nurse (she was born on Nurse’s Day May 6) first as a LPN, then getting her RN license at State Community College in East Saint Louis.
Mary started her career at Memorial Hospital, then went to St. Elizabeth’s, Cardinal Glennon, and finishing her career at Memorial in Home Care. It was ‘her calling’ in home care, visiting with the patients.
Mary’s ‘best friend’ was her Mom. True ‘partners in crime,’ always together on car rides, shopping trips, and crafting projects.
Mary loved making cards and scrapbooking. She loved to decorate for Christmas. She enjoyed and loved her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great nephews. She was always happy to hold the babies and smiled the most with the little ones. She took them to ‘Disney on Ice’ many times and enjoyed it as much as they did, sometime even a trip with their friends along to Discovery Zone! She and her Mom even traveled to Disney World with them! She spoiled them with their favorite donuts! She always tried to see the nieces play sports as they grew and cheered for them on the sidelines. She never missed their church and school concerts and musicals.
She was preceded in death by father, Robert Holcomb, mother, Clara Holcomb, and brother, Robert Holcomb.
She is survived by sisters, Janice Holcomb, Carol (Paul) Parker; brother, Charlie (Donna) Holcomb; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Officiating the service will be Pastor Kyle Wright.
Donations suggested are Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Collinsville and Family Hospice of Belleville in Mary's name.
A visitation for Mary will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 North Illinois Street, Fairview Heights, IL 62208. Followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, with the committal service to follow.
