Melissa Diane Collins, 49, suffered a cardiac episode in the late hours of November 27, 2018 and despite the extraordinary and heroic efforts of her son Lukas and the St. Elizabeth ICU team to save her, she succumbed on November 28, 2018. She was born March 17, 1969 in Belleville. She was a beautiful, and feisty, fun loving spirit and was adored by many. Those of you who met her in recent years may not have been familiar with her sense of humor, beauty and style. Her family and friends will always remember her as a great mother, coach, football fan, and a lover, protector and mentor of her three children. Melissa is survived by her daughter, Chelsey Lampros, her sons, Dustin Lampros, and Lukas Collins, all of Freeburg; her mother, Elaine Gojmeric and her stepfather Nick A. Gojmeric of Smithton. Visitation will be held from 1 pm until the time of Trisagion’s Service at 4 pm on Sunday December 2, 2018 at Lake View Funeral Home in Fairview Heights. A private burial will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Belleville at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family.

Oh girl, where do I begin. None of this even seems real. We may not have been connected by blood but, we were connected by love. We were family. Hailie always like a daughter to you. Lukas like a grandson to me. To each other they are siblings. A bond they have had since they were babies. They are so lost right now. Your kids were always your pride and joy. You took such pride in everything they did. You always took care of those you loved. It never mattered how down and out you were you would help someone else. Even if it was as small as a few cans of soup. If someone needed it you gave. You gave so much more. You gave your love. You were there for me in some pretty bad times. When I really wanted and needed to reconnect with God and a church it was you who took me to Faith Family. You knew I'd love it. I did too. Throughout all the years ive known you there has been so much laughter and tears. Now it's time to say good bye. Once again it is with tears. As I remember you and all the great times we had though the tears are replaced with laughter. Fly high my lovely friend. You are now with all those who went before you.
