

Neal proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving two tours in Vietnam. He worked as a grounds keeper with Tamarack Golf Course, in Shiloh, Illinois. He had a passion for motorcycles when he was younger. His passion then turned to participating in Rendezvous Historical Reenactments of the Frontier Era. He led and organized the Camp DuBois Rendezvous in Wood River, Illinois. Neal was a crafter and enjoyed making knives, Indian war clubs, and other historical memorabilia. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Sarff; his parents, James and Patricia, nee Shawgo, Volk; and a brother, Brian Volk, in infancy.
Surviving are his loving wife of 23 years, Linda M. Schaaf-Volk, nee Turner, of Mascoutah, Illinois; his children, Sherri M. (Terry Porterfield) Cain, of Belleville, Illinois, Richard J. Cain, of Belleville, Illinois, Jamie (Wade) Shimer, of Plainfield, Illinois, and three biological daughters, Kari Jo, DonRae, and Heather, who were lovingly raised by their adopted father; his grandchildren, Jeremy, Anthony, and Stella; his siblings, Kathy (Randy) Rigg, Phyllis (Wes) Holmes, Vickie (Mike) Fitzgerald, and Matt (Kim) Volk; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
