Today, I lost my best friend. My grandpa was my right hand man. He would always ask when I was flying home so he could plan on being in the back seat to pick me up from the airport. It was his smile I needed to see after my long day of traveling and sit next to him holding his hand as we drove home. He would save his croutons for me, even when I wasn't there. He would drop everything if I call asking him to bring me lunch when I was working. He had 4 subway recipes just ready to grab when I said which number I wanted that day. My grandpa meant so much to me and always showed my grandma, family and random strangers how to laugh, love and smile. He told me yesterday "I love the crap out of you!" And when I said I love you when I went to leave he said "I love you so much more than you love me." And I responded with, "okay, grandpa you win this time." Not knowing it would be the last time. 

I heard this quote on my favorite TV show, Code Black. 
Patient: Why would you want to feel pain? 
Dr. Rorish: Because I want to feel love. I feel pain for the people I miss. But I feel it because I loved them. And I wouldn't trade that love for anything. Not even the pain. 

Grandpa you were my first kiss of 2017 and I'm glad I got to hold your hand as you took your final breath. I will love you forever and alway! ❤

I remember when my siblings and I we very young my Dad worked three jobs, one job was a gas station and every time he would come home he would have candy for us 
(I think it was lifesavers). I remember us running to the car knowing what he had in his pocket.

I remember camping, boating and water skiing at Crab Orchard Lake, we were there every weekend and almost every vacation, Mom would have everything packed for the weekend, Dad would come straight home from work hook the boat up, drive 100 miles to the lake, we would set up camp, those days it was tent camping. Then he would launch the boat and take three screaming kids out water skiing before he would crash and sleep, totally exhausted, the rest of the day.. He did that EVERY weekend EVERY weekend.

I remember hunting and jug fishing with dad, he loved doing both. He taught my brother and me how to hunt safely, My Mom and Dad bought a club house on the Kaskaski River outside Carlyle. We had so much fun out there. There are too many stories to tell, but one was when I shot a hole in the roof of the club house, Dad, Craig, Me, and Uncle George went rabbit hunting that day. Uncle George and dad patched the roof and it was decided that we wont tell mom. So What happens at the club house stays at the club house

The last story I will share with you is when dad let Craig and I use his new GMC pick up truck to go deer hunting in Southern Illinois. We loaded it up and I was driving, we were almost there and we came to a railroad crossing, the red lights were blinking and a train was coming. I decided I would cross before the train crossed, when I started across the tracks the arm started to come down in front of me and the other arm came down behind me, I stopped the truck, jumped out and tried to lift the arm but it wouldn't rise, the train was getting closer and I went into panic mode. Craig yelled at me to get off the tracks and he jumped in the truck put it in gear and drove the truck off the tracks. Thank god for Craig's level headed thinking. When all was done Dad's Brand New Green GMC pick up truck had a deep scratch from the arm the entire length of the truck from the front quarter panel to the rear quarter panel, including dad's new camper shell. I was so concerned about what dad would say to me about the condition I returned his truck. Would he yell and scream at me, would he tell me he was disappointed in me? When we drove up in the driveway and I walked in the house to tell dad the bad news about his truck that I was driving, he walked out to look at the truck and his words were.  Doug I can have the scratch fixed I can even replace the truck, But I cant replace YOU 

My dad was a story teller and had a sense of humor, he had so many one liners that always made you laugh. I never knew of one person that disliked dad. Anyone he met became a friend for life. He loved my mother for 65 years and they completed each other.
He had a place in his heart for all five grand children. They all have grandpa stories.

My role model was my dad, he taught me about the importance of family. I will miss him for the rest of my life.

It is with a heavy heart that I must share about the loss of my grandfather, Owen Arney. I can honestly say that there hasn't been a single time in my life when my grandfather has disappointed me. He has always shown me the importance of family, and how to persevere through harsh obstacles. 

I've witnessed people of all ages being drawn to his charisma. His undivided attention made you feel like you were the only two people in the world at that moment. 

I'll never forget how he would strike up conversations with the most unlikely people and turn them into his new best friend. It was amazing how one interaction with him could make someone feel like they had known him for years.

One of the fondest memories I have of my grandfather was a night when my father and I sat around our kitchen table listening to him tell stories about his childhood. He had the gift of turning a boring story about his life into an epic, making you wonder if all the fantastic details were added just to make for a better story. Either way, I was captivated and intrigued with every single tale he would tell me. 

He was a perfect blend of kind and stern, light hearted and serious. He taught me so much about what it takes to be a man. 

He was one of the most important role models in my life and I hope he knew how much he meant to me. 

I have nothing but respect and gratitude for knowing such a great person, and I would consider my life complete if I become half the man he was.

How do you describe a man who has been the most incredible male role model you could have in your life? I don't think words do if justice. My grandpa was a kind soul who would help anyone he possibly could. He'd give the shirt off his own back. He was always just a phone call away and never once hesitated. 

He was the man who taught me how a man should treat a woman. He showed me that by loving my grandma for 65 1/2 years!! He loved her with every fiber of his being. If I can have a love with Ryan that's half that beautiful then I will feel so blessed. 

He told me to always check my oil because my car could explode if I let the car run empty again. (I won't do that again grandpa.) He would always buy my favoring kind of bacon at Sam's and we'd share the 2-pack! He taught me how to kick major butt in the card game way and taught me how to shuffle a deck of playing cards. 

I always wanted to learn how to ride his motor scooter but he always told me, "Courtney, I'd never be okay if you got hurt. Let me just take you where you need to go." He always had my best interests at heart, even if I wanted to ride the cool scooter. 

I remember a few christmas's ago all the grandkids sat in the basement and listened to all of his stories from Iceland, being so in love and married to my grandma & advice on how to live life to the fullest. He loved each day like the honest, happy and strong person that he was. I'm going to strive to live my life just like him. 

Those are the memories I will always cherish. They are moments and thoughts that will never escape me and I will think about when I start to get sad and down.

I will always have a smile when I think of you. You made me smile & laugh every chance that you got. Thank you for loving meunconditionally and never letting me down!

He always had a smile and a kind word for family as well as strangers. I have so many wonderful memories with him. He taught me how to camp and water ski and we always had fun weekends with him and his family. I will miss him terribly. His soul was as bright on earth as it is now in heaven. Rest in peace dear uncle untill we meet again.

My Great Uncle Owen was a wonderful, witty and kind man.  I will always remember my time with him growing up.  RIP and condolences to Aunt Donna and family.

I am blessed to have known Owen. He's such a loving, good-hearted man. Jesus promises me that this is not goodbye but see you later.  So until then....

Owen has been such a nice neighbor. We will miss seeing him.

Owen always made me laugh his smile was as big as his heart Ron and I will truly miss him ....our thoughts and prayers are with you Donna and your family if there is anything we can do for you all let us know..may god be with you all.
