

Perl E. Hazelip, 87, of Belleville, passed away at home, Thursday evening, December 29, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born August 24, 1935 to James Lon and Eucy Ruth (Perkinson) Hazelip. Perl attended East Alton Wood River Community High School. He starting working at the age of 17 on the barges on the Mississippi River. He married Georgeann Stebbins February 20, 1960. She preceded him in death October 23, 1991. Perl and his family lived in Seal Beach, California for 10 years. He worked at Garrett Research Company in California and Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cypress, California as part of the interment crew as well as assisting in cremation operations and driving the limousine for the families. After moving back to Illinois, Perl was employed as a lead man at Dome Railway, where he retired from. He married Carolyn Agnew May 30, 1998 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Belleville, Illinois. Perl enjoyed fishing and in his younger years he enjoyed hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Hazelip; daughters, Patricia (Darrell) Burke and Sandra (Douglas) Burkstaller; grandchildren, Jennifer (Chance) Thatcher, Jessica (Kenneth) Faircloth, Janelle Burkstaller, Janette Burkstaller, Ryan Burke and Eric (Tehya Wise) Burke; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Davis and Dalton Thatcher, Bryson, Kelbie, Andrew and Aaron Faircloth and Carter Crowder; step-children, Stephen (Rhonda) Agnew and Sherri Lynn (Charles) Glover; step-grandchildren, Scott (Joni) Foran-Hall, Shelly Bowman, CJ (Vanessa) Glover, Stephanie Agnew, Tony Agnew and Sam Agnew; step-great-grandchildren, Mariah and MJ Bowman, Brody and Brynn Hall, Eric, Scarlett, Morgan and Vayah Agnew; brother-in-law, Dwight Farris; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Hazelip and Norma Franke; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Georgeann Hazelip; brothers, Bob (Vera) Hazelip and Tom (Geraldine) Hazelip; sister, Mary Hazelip; mother-in-law, Martha Albert and father-in-law, Carl Albert.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 11:00am in St. Paul United Church of Christ, 115 W B St., Belleville, IL 62220 with Rev. Michelle Torigian officiating. Visitation from 9:00am until time of service. Interment in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Collinsville, IL. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul UCC or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
